Special Tie‑Wire Plays Critical Role for Rebar Tying Tools
Taking Makita's DTR180, DTR181, and TR001G series fully automatic rebar tying machines as examples, the material, diameter tolerance, and reel structure of the tying wire directly determine the probability of wire jamming, blade wear, and the strength of the tying joints, becoming a key factor prone to problems on-site.
According to feedback from engineering sites, many construction sites, in an effort to reduce costs, directly purchase ordinary bulk iron wire or non-standard substitute wire for use in the machines, resulting in problems such as wire slippage, frequent wire jamming, kinking and breakage, and blade breakage. The machine, which should complete one rebar joint tying per second, experiences repeated shutdowns for repairs due to incompatible consumables, not only failing to reduce costs and increase efficiency but also increasing equipment maintenance costs and slowing down the overall construction progress.
Makita's original rebar binding wires are differentiated for different machine models, divided into four categories: annealed black iron wire, galvanized rust-proof wire, PE-coated protective wire, and coarse annealed wire for large machines. Strict limits are placed on wire diameter and reel specifications, compatible with both DTR180/DTR181 (18V) and TR001G (40V XGT) equipment platforms. Wire reels from different machine models must not be mixed.
The DTR180 and DTR181 models primarily use Φ0.8mm annealed low-carbon steel wire, with a single roll capable of approximately 120 bindings. The galvanized version is suitable for damp, outdoor conditions and must be used with the guide plate B assembly to reduce wear on the cutting head caused by the galvanized layer. The Φ0.9mm plastic-coated binding wire is specifically designed for epoxy-coated rebar applications, preventing scratches to the rebar's protective coating during binding. The TR001G heavy-duty 40V binding machine uses Φ1.6mm thick annealed wire, suitable for D22-D35 large-diameter rebar, with a single roll capable of up to 240 bindings, designed for heavy-duty applications in bridges and large-scale infrastructure projects.
Industry technicians say that there are three core requirements for a qualified binding machine wire: First, it uses Q195 low-carbon steel with a fully annealed soft state process to ensure kinking toughness; second, it strictly adheres to wire diameter tolerances to avoid abnormal wire feeding caused by wires being too large or too small; and third, it uses a dedicated integrated plastic reel with an inner hole that matches the equipment to ensure stable wire feeding and prevent wire tangling or roll-off problems.
How to choose proper tie wire for rebar tying tool
Selecting correct tie‑wire is critical for rebar tying machine performance. Wrong wire causes jamming, broken ties and blade damage.
Match machine model first: DTR180/DTR181 works with Ø0.8 mm black / galvanized wire, Ø0.9 mm PE‑coated wire. TR001G only uses Ø1.6 mm annealed wire. Reel dimension must be compatible.
Match rebar size: Ø0.8 mm for D10‑D16 rebar; Ø1.6 mm for heavy‑duty D22‑D35 rebar.
Select material by jobsite: annealed black wire for general construction; galvanized wire for humid / coastal site; PE‑coated wire for epoxy‑coated rebar.
Must be fully‑annealed low‑carbon Q195 steel. Hard high‑carbon wire is forbidden.
